COCONUT OIL
Organic virgin coconut oil is a powerful, nutritious, raw food with many healing uses. Coconut oil is 90% saturated fat which, contrary to popular belief, is GOOD for you. You NEED fat for brain health, bone health and to help you stay SLIM.  That's right... HEALTHY FAT HELPS YOU LOOSE WEIGHT. Coconut oil is also 64% medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), which burn as energy quickly rather storing in the body as fat (especially belly fat) like the long-chains. MCFAs are quite rare in foods and have massive positive implications for your health.

Coconut oil is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-parasite, and anti-fungal. It prevents heart disease; linked by recent research to lingering infections in the blood and tissues that coconut oil kills. It has been documented to inhibit carcinogenic agents that cause colon cancer and breast tumors in animals.

Coconut oil is highly alkaline and purifies the blood.  It never clogs arteries since it is a liquid above 76 degrees. It is used in hospitals around the world: it’s ideal for people with digestion problems because the medium-chain triglycerides don’t require pancreatic enzymes or bile to digest. It’s perfect for diabetics because it helps regulate blood sugar and supplies energy to cells without affecting blood sugar or insulin levels. It’s been shown to improve insulin secretion and utilization of blood glucose.

Coconut oil is very stable and doesn’t go rancid for 2-3 years or more, even when stored at room temperature. Refined oils are rancid already when you buy them, heated above 400 degrees and often bombarded with hydrogen atoms to make them fake foods, trans fatty acids that damage or destroy every cell they touch. It’s the only oil that doesn’t create trans fats even when heated to high temps, as in sautéing —so it’s perfect for cooking and even better as a raw food.

Another rare feature of coconut oil is that its main component is LAURIC ACID, the powerful antimicrobial, immune-function compound in mother’s breast milk. That’s why baby formula companies use it for fatty acids in formula —it’s the closest they can get to mother’s milk. Some researchers predict that lauric acid will one day become as well known in health circles as Omega-3 is today.

Much has been written about EFAs, (Essential fatty acids) and although coconut oil isn’t a significant source of EFAs, it can increase the efficiency of EFAs by as much as 100%! Healthy Omega 3's cant absorb without saturated fat.  So take wit your fish oil!

EV'S SKIN RECOVERY LOTION
I GET MY SUPPLIES FROM: MOUNTAIN ROSE HERBS
On low, melt in a small pot:
1/2 C Shea butter, organic (option, 1/2  cocoa butter, 1/2 Shea)
1/2 C Carrier oil.  I use a blend of: 1/4 C Kukui Nut oil (for aging skin- that's me!), and 1/4 C of: sweet almond oil, avocado oil, hemp oil, extra virgin olive oil, or jojoba...
1/2 C Coconut oil, organic extra virgin, cold pressed, unrefined  NUTIVA is my favorite
1/2 C Beeswax
1 T 100% ARGAN OIL
Essential oils for scent.  Rose is good for aging skin.

~After everything has slowly melted, remove from the stove and gently pour the liquid into a small mason jar or plastic jars (that have a lid).  Let the jars sit, uncovered, overnight.  Skin Recovery will turn white when it is cooled.

NOTES:
~Use different oils, depending on your specific needs
~For thinner consistency, whisk in: 1 cup of homemade organic hot tea, plus 1/4 cup emulsifying wax
~I add organic lavender and chamomile tea bags to the warm oil, and let steep.
~After it is made, if the lotion is becomes too hard, stir up with a butter knife to soften or leave in a warm place.
~Smooth on after bathing and before bed

OPTION: Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, my favorites are: Ylang Ylang, Myrrh, Bergamot, Geranium, Sweet Orange, Eucalyptus and Rosemary mixed with Spearmint .  For Emory's sensitive skin I leave this step out, but the girls really enjoy picking out their own scent.

FOR FACE TREATMENT: I put a bit of recovery lotion in my hand and add a couple drops of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar and water mix (I mix up and keep in bathroom).  Rub on face for deep conditioning face butter.

NOTES:
~Astaxanthin: For longevity, anti aging, improved brain and heart function, endurance, performance and recovery. A deep red-colored phytonutrient synthesized by microalgae called Haematococcus. It is what gives Salmon, and other seafood, their pink color and allows them the endurance and power to swim against the current- without it, they cannot. It also increases life span and repairs tissue damage. When harvested from the algae and concentrated into a liquid, astaxanthin becomes the most powerful antioxidant known in the natural world.  Start taking 4 mg, 3-4 times a day, 12 weeks before endurance activity.  Fat soluble, so take with fish oil.
~Greens: (Chlorella and Spirulina) alkaline the body and rid of lactic acid and waste. They also: repair damaged muscles and provide essential amino acids; along with being a natural anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant.
~Maca: (tastes HORRIBLE) is also an excellent food to help speed recovery and promote energy. Grown in the Peruvian highlands, maca is a turnip-like root vegetable. Available at many health food stores in powdered form or capsules (there are many different types of Maca). Maca helps to nourish and rejuvenate the adrenal glands. After training or any other type of stress, the adrenals become fatigued. Stress, either mental or physical, affects the hypothalamus, causing the adrenal glands to increase the production of cortisol (the stress hormone). As we were not designed to function under long-term stress, continued high levels of cortisol have a detrimental effect upon our health. Maca is a powerful adaptogen, which by definition is a substance (food or nutritive herb), which brings the body to a heightened state of resistance to disease through physiological and emotional health. Plants known as "adaptogens" are known to: raise the non-specific resistance to disease, be capable of normalizing functions in the body even in disease states, be non-toxic and harmless to any organ of the body, and be safe for ingestion for long periods as a nutritive for preventative purposes. Also it is “natures Viagra”!
~Salba and Chia: are the richest whole food source of Omega-3 fatty acids and fiber found in nature. Two tablespoons of these tiny little white seeds deliver a daily dose of: fiber, protein, calcium, ALA EFA’s and more.
~Extra Virgin Coconut Oil: (I use this on/in everything) is a powerful, nutritious, raw food with many healing uses. Coconut oil is 64% medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), which burn as energy quickly rather storing in the body as fat (especially belly fat) like the long-chains.
~Dark Cherries:  The phytochemicals (in particular: anthocyanins) found in dark Montmorency cherries have anti-inflammatory and antioxidating properties, which the research has shown to be effective in helping people recover from strenuous physical activity.
~FAT: You need fat for brain health, bone health and to help you stay SLIM.  That's right... HEALTHY FAT HELPS YOU LOOSE WEIGHT.
~Protein: will help with muscle repair.
~Drink pickle juice the day before the event.  It will help you not to cramp up during the race.  I don’t know if this is true or not, but it works for me and has become my pre race tradition!
~Starting a week before the race drink extra water.
~REMEMBER: Recovery begins before the race does.
